Other Training Programs

RYC offers other kinds of training and clinics such as Instructor and Power Boat Safety courses.

US Sailing Small Boat Instructor Program

RYC offers the US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Course. The Level 1 course is offered most frequently in March or April. This course is geared towards anyone interested in teaching beginner sailors. Due to COVID restrictions, it is a hybrid course.  On-line and in person at least until August 2021.  The on-line portion is 10 days 1-2 hours a day.  Once that is completed you must register for your 2 day in person course. Which will be where you show your sailing, safety boat handling and teaching skills. The course and participants must be 16 years old or older. The course is designed to provide sailing instructors with information on how to teach safely, effectively, and creatively. Topics covered in the course include classroom and on-the-water teaching techniques, risk management, safety issues, lesson planning, creative activities, ethical concerns, and sports physiology and psychology. All dates and registration for the Level 1 on-line and 2 day in person class can be found on the US Sailing website.
