General Membership Meetings
General Membership meetings are held for the members of the club to hear reports from the Board of Directors and the committees, for members to propose and vote on actions, and for prospective members to be introduced to the membership.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors oversees the operation of the club. It consists of seven members, three of whom are flag officers. The Board reports to the members of the club.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee constructs the budget and monitors income and expenditures. Savings plans for long range projects are also developed. The committee works closely with the Board of Directors since the policies of the club and the financial assets needed to implement them are closely linked.
Events Committee
The Events Committee oversees all of the social events. Parties held in conjunction with regattas, special dinners and lunches, and other entertainment are usually put on by this committee. All events using the club house are scheduled through the Events Committee, although some events are run by other groups or by private parties.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee processes applications for membership in the club, changes in membership category, and resignations. The committee recommends actions to be taken to the Board of Directors .
Standing Race Committee
The Standing Race Committee runs the regattas that the club puts on. The acquisition and maintenance of all the equipment needed, the running of seminars for education, the selection of regattas and their scheduling, and the assembly of volunteers to run the races all fall under the auspices of this committee.
Storm Jib
The Storm Jib is the monthly newsletter of the club. It contains official notices, communications from the Board of Directors and the committees, notices of upcoming events, and news about the club and its members. The editor assembles the submitted articles and sends the proof to a printer and to the club web master. The printed copies are folded and stamped for mailing by a special group.
Harbor Committee
The Harbor Committee oversees the tenancy of the berths in the harbor and the maintenance of the docks, breakwaters, bulkheads, and hoists. The committee also supervises the harbormaster.
Sailing Advisory Committee
The Sailing Advisory Committee oversees the participation of the club in several areas of sailing. One area is youth instruction, in four programs: 1) single handed sailing for beginning to moderately advanced children in the fall and winter seasons that is taught by parents, 2) double handed or high school sailing taught by parents and coaches, 3) practice in the summer that is coached, and 4) the Stockton Sailing Camp in the summer for beginning to intermediate sailors that is run in partnership with the Stockton Sailing Club. The Sailing Advisory Committee also organizes the entries to the Lipton, Larry Knight, Little Lipton, and other regattas in which clubs rather than individual sailors compete. This committee also administers the fund of the Richmond Yacht Club which assists sailors to attend regattas.
Facilities Planning Committee
The Facilities Planning Committee, formed in 2006, investigated the physical condition of the club and recommended actions to be taken in 1) ongoing maintenance, 2) the replacement of deteriorating structures, and 3) the addition of new structures. The committee will continue to advise the Board of Directors in the scheduling of work, based on necessity and finances.
Insurance Committee
The Insurance Committee oversees the insurance needs of the club and recommends the insurance policies to be carried. It is valuable for the chairperson to be a person with experience in the insurance industry.
Information Technology Committee
The Information Technology Committee oversees the acquisition and operation of the computer hardware and software of the club, including the maintenance of the web site.
Junior Program
The Junior Program consists of instruction for beginning to moderately advanced children in the fall and winter seasons. Children must be at least 8 years old, and the oldest are in high school. The instruction and the operations are performed by parents.
Double-Handed/High School Program
The double handed or high school sailing program generally takes children who have gone through the Junior Program and puts them into two-person boats. The purpose is either preparation for entry to youth regattas or the formation of high school sailing teams. Either route is preparation for collegiate sailing. The instruction is performed by parents and college aged instructors.
Summer Youth Program
The Summer instruction program is series of two week courses for children of all ability levels. A child can attend one or more of the courses. The instruction is performed by college aged instructors.
Richmond Yacht Club Foundation
The Richmond Yacht Club Foundation provides financial assistance to sailors and sailing organizations. Income to the foundation is in both donations of money and donations of boats and equipment, which are then sold or auctioned off.
Cruising
The Cruising Committee organizes monthly cruises to other yacht clubs on San Francisco Bay and in the Delta. An interesting destination is often chosen. The outward bound trip usually ends in a cocktail party on the dock and a dinner in the host club. The return trip often starts with a breakfast on the dock. |
