The Richmond Yacht Club Foundation was founded in 1990 as a California non-profit charitable corporation. Its purpose is to help Bay Area sailors and sailing organizations by providing assistance in training, travel, seminars, and other needs.
The Foundation is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors and has no paid employees.
Funds are raised by appeals for donations of money, boats, sailing equipment, cars, real estate, and securities which may be sold to raise funds. Donations may be deductible as a charitable contribution depending on the pertinent tax laws. 2006 has been another successful year for the Foundation as we continue our support of local sailors participating in events at the highest competitive levels. Typically we help with registration fees, charters and travel expenses. All RYC members should be proud of the Foundation's accomplishments and those of its grantees.
This year the Foundation has been particularly busy helping outstanding Club and area adult, youth, and junior sailors by funding participation at regional, national, and international events. As our junior members continue to develop inside and outside the Junior Program, the Foundation is proud to be able to assist them. For example, we gave financial support to a number of youth team campaigns leading to the 29er World Championships hosted in southern England, and to a Junior team representing RYC and Area G at the United States Junior Sailing Championships (Sears Cup) in Detroit.
A major grant to the RYC Juniors, initiated last year for rotating the double-handed sailing stock, was finalized this year. The grant for up to $25K was authorized to replace some of the original CFJs and 420s (that were secondhand to begin with) so that our kids have enough quality equipment to train and be competitive in regional and national events. As part of the grant's requirements, the Junior Program has developed a plan for the maintenance and future replacement of the boats. The Foundation sees this as an investment in the future of the Club and part of its Charter.
Your tax deductible $25 deduction will help us continue the Foundation's mission of promoting our sport, particularly among younger sailors. If you can help with a larger amount or a donation in another form, such as a boat, automobile, saleable equipment, stocks or real estate, this will allow us to do even more next year. If you would like information regarding naming the Foundation in your will or trust, please contact us.
Thank you for your generous support.
